Entry Level Systems:
Even the smallest shops need reliable, supportable servers. These
should include redundant power supplies, RAID disk arrays, and
hardware-based remote management. Decent systems capable of hosting
multiple services with reasonable performance generally start around
$1,500.
Mid-range Systems:
Larger offices using a larger number of services will want to beef up
the memory and processors. If you need a lot of data storage, you may
need an external array. Mileage will vary, but robust mid-range system
capable of hosting considerably more services and/or for a much larger
group of users, generally start around $3,000.
Monster Systems:
Of course, there is no upper limit to how much you can spend on
high-end server equipment. But the fact is, some people will buy a
$60,000 "Humvee" when what they really needed was a couple of $10,000
"pickup trucks". We'll help you figure out what you do - and don't -
need.
